These are random lists of the major colleges and the major prisons in Illinois. There are more colleges and there are more prisons in Illinois not included in these lists. Sixty percent is the average number of Black males in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Some of the prisons above have more than 60% and some have less than 60%. Most Black men in college are between 18 and 30 years old. Many, if not most of the Black men in prisons are between 18 and 40 years old. The abbreviation CC represents “Correctional Center”. We did not include community colleges or county jails in these statistics. These statistics were provided by the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Illinois Department of Corrections for 2007. This information was compiled by The Black Star Project, www.blackstarproject.org or 773.285.9600.
